The Trees We Loved
It’s difficult to report as we share this rhyme, that two distinguished trees are in serious decline.
Two pillars on the Windsor Town Green, enjoyed by so many, the things they have seen.
Shad Derbies, ceremonies, and concerts to hear, have highlighted their lives for more than 50 years.
The sugar maple in front of the Chamber, has severe damage that threatens to claim her.
Her branches have been dying and deadwood removed, but the damage to her roots is not to be misconstrued.
The mighty Beech tree in front of town hall, was donated by the Windsor Kiwanis and has always stood tall.
He now suffers from a Phytophthora bleeding canker, an illness, weakening his anchor.
The prognosis for these two icons is not good. We treasure the memories of shelter and beauty they shared for as long as they could.
They’ll both be leaving us in the coming weeks you will see, oil removed to prepare for replanting new trees.
Please don’t be sad, or let woeful emotions flood,
when you visit the green, remember the trees we loved.
