2023 AARP Tax-Aide Program

(for the 2022 Tax Filing Season)

Volunteers from the AARP Tax-Aide Program have returned to the LP Wilson Community Center for the 2022 Tax Filing Season.  Volunteers provide free tax preparation & electronic filing services of both Federal & State tax returns. Appointments are available every Monday and Thursday between the hours of 8:45am-11:00am, starting in February. 

Appointments are required and can be made online (using the link below) as early as early as January 3, 2022.  Before your scheduled appointment, you must stop by the LP Wilson Community Center, 599 Matianuck Avenue, Windsor, to pick up an Intake Sheet that must be completed prior to your appointment.

Northwest Park

January Full Moon Hike

Come to Northwest Park on Friday, January 6th for a guided Full Moon Hike from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM to enjoy the beautiful trails and the full “Wolf Moon” of January. Ages 12+. Fee for this program is $12 person (Windsor resident) $16 per person (Nonresidents). 

Participants must preregister as space is limited.

Veteran's Rally

On Thursday, January 19 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the L.P. Wilson Community Center Cafe, join other veterans and their families at the inaugural Greater Windsor Veteran’s Council Veteran’s Rally.

Visit with vendors and organizations that may enlighten you with information on veteran’s benefits, programs, and much more. Gather with friends, both old and new for games, activities, raffles, and more. Dinner, hot and cold beverages, and desserts will be served. Free for veterans and their families. Register by calling 860-285-1992.

Northwest Park

Cross Country Ski & Snowshoe Rentals at Northwest Park

Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe rentals are available from the Warming Shed on Saturdays and Sundays beginning Saturday, January 7th. Rentals are available from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, when there is at least a 6” base of snow and adequate conditions. Equipment rentals are reserved for a 2-hour block. Last rentals at 2:00 PM.

The rental season is currently expected to run through March 19, 2023, weather permitting. If you have your own equipment, the trails are open daily from dawn to dusk. Get more information on our website by clicking the button below.

Boys Council

Boy’s Council is held at the Millbrook Club House from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM every Monday from January 9th, 2023 to March 30th, 2023. Boys Council engages young men in activities, dialogue, and self-expression to question stereotypical concepts and to increase boys’ emotional, social, and cultural literacy. This program is for boys in 4th and 5th grade. Space is limited to 12 participants. Dinner is provided at each session

ARC Babysitter Training Course

What: The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Class is designed to teach 11-17-year-olds how to respond to emergencies with first aid, rescue breathing, make good decisions under pressure, communicate effectively with parents, recognize safety and hygiene issues, manage young children, feed, diaper and care for infants, and start a babysitting business! Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certification card. Please bring a lunch.

When/Where: Saturday, December 31 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Millbrook Clubhouse.

Ages: 11 to 17 years old.

DIY Duct Tape Crafts

What: Take a break from your electronics, and join us by using your creative skills to make fun products with colorful duct tape! Arts and crafts are a great way to bond with your family and work together! The kit will include materials to make a duct tape sleds, wallets, and flower pencil (2 rolls of duct tape, cardboard etc.)

When/Where: Kits will be delivered the week of January 15, 2023.

Ages: Families with children.
