Today is Buckle Up, Phone Down Day!
Drive the Change TODAY by pledging to put your phone down and buckle up every time you drive.
Every pledge COUNTS. By committing to driving distraction-free, you're not just following the law — you're actively contributing to a safer, more caring community.
Take the pledge at trailnet.org/take-the-pledge.
Hands Free Missouri Penalties Begin This January
The Siddens Bening hands free law is already in effect, but penalties begin January 2025. Since the year the law took effect, Missouri has reduced distracted driving by 5.1%, helping avoid an estimated 1,000 crashes, 660 injuries. Most importantly, it's believed to have saved five lives.
Under this law, drivers are prohibited from...
- physically holding or supporting a cell phone with any part of their body
- manually typing, writing, sending, or reading text-based messages
- recording, posting, sending or broadcasting video, including video calls and social media posts
- watching a video or movie.
Join LaKesha as a Drive the Change Ambassador! Here's why she signed the pledge:
"Safety is important to me... not only is your safety important but also that of others on the roadway, whether they are drivers, passengers, or pedestrians."
LaKesha is also concerned about the ripple effects from a crash, which "also affect their families, jobs, and the extended community."
She also knows how fast things can happen on the road: "Not using your phone while driving keeps everyone safe because split-second decisions need to be made when you are on the road."
Drive the Change Ambassadors like LaKesha challenge 5+ people to take the pledge with them. Sign up today and help spread the word!
