'Tis the Season!
It's time to be an angel, and pick an angel (if you can do it soon). The Friends of the Truro Library, in conjunction with the Homeless Prevention Council and their Adopt-A-Family program, presents the 12th Annual Angel Tree. To participate: Select an Angel from the tree by the Truro Library circulation desk. Each Angel will list the name and age of a child in need. Sign out the Angel at the Circulation Deck, then purchase a set of hat and gloves and gift or book for your child. Return these, with the gift or book unwrapped, to the Library by December 5th.
For the month of December, the Truro Public Library will continue to display "After Hopper in Edward Hopper's Town" (see below).
In our event listings below, you will find minimal programming offering a few alternate activities as you enjoy your holidays. Next year, we'll start off in January with our popular music series for all ages (Saturdays at 1 p.m.), a film noir series for adults (Tuesdays at 6 p.m.), and the return of Junk Drawer Science for kids (Wednesdays at 4 p.m.). Check our website for upcoming details.
As always, we want to help you enjoy your digital library experience as well as your virtual library experience. Call ahead for an appointment or ask anytime for assistance with any of our digital media.
We hope to see you soon!
Our Holiday Hours
We will close at NOON on Thursday, December 24 and on Thursday, December 31. We will be CLOSED on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Years Day (January 1, 2016).
For KIDS and ADULTS… a Mock Caldecott!
Each year the Caldecott medal goes to the artist who created the “most distinguished” book illustrations. With the assistance of Barbara Klipper, a former Caldecott Award Selection Committee member, Maggie Hanelt has designed a Mock Caldecott prize to go to Truro’s favorite picture book.
Patrons of all ages can vote for their favorite picture book from a list of six top contenders. Your ballot can be cast at the Library from December 9–January 9, 2015.
Find more information and download a ballot on our website.
After Hopper in Edward Hopper’s Town
Exhibition November 2 through December, 2015
Artists from near and far have joined with the Addison Art Gallery and other regional organizations and businesses for “After Hopper,” a celebration of work by contemporary artists inspired by Edward Hopper and Cape Cod — the area that inspired Hopper for decades. Helen Addison, owner of the Addison Art Gallery, stated, "'After Hopper' celebrates the integral part [that] Hopper, as an artist, has played in our country’s artistic heritage, and the effects of his work has on today’s painters, as well as the essential part played by those preserving our artistic traditions.” After Hopper is supported by the Edward Hopper House Art Center (Nyack, New York), Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector and Plein Air Magazine as well as Pamet Harbor Yacht and Tennis Club, Truro Public Library and Truro Vineyards.
