Visiting Scholar Talk
Andrea Horbinski | Yes, No, Maybe So:
Connections Between Japanese Prints, Anime and Manga, and the Stories We Tell About Them
Thursday, April 27
5:30 p.m. Reception
6 p.m. Program
Thank you for your patience! We are excited to welcome Visiting Scholar Andrea Horbinski, whose talk has been rescheduled to
Thursday, April 27.
Focusing on art and society in the 19th and 20th centuries, when Japan underwent a rapid, self-imposed transition to modernity, this presentation examines not only the linkages between anime and manga and printmaking, but also the limits of those connections, and how the evidence for and against them has been deployed to serve larger stories about race, modernity, and culture in the Asia-Pacific and worldwide. Join us at 5:30 p.m. for a reception. The program will begin at 6 p.m.
Final Week to Apply for Ulrich Internships
If you know a great candidate for an internship with the Ulrich Museum, now is the time to send them our way!
Three paid internships are available thanks to the Stev Overstreet Ulrich Museum of Art Internship Fund. These offer valuable experience in the everyday workings of a university art museum. Interns can earn up to $2,500 per semester. Additional internship funding is provided by The Kouri Museum Assistantship and the WSU Student Government Association.
The application period is March 1-31 for internships during the 2023-24 academic year. Now is the time to prepare submission materials, which include a current resume accompanied by a cover letter. We strongly recommend visiting the Museum's exhibitions and events, and exploring this website before writing the cover letter. Find more details about internships here.
Have you shared your Ulrich memories with us yet?
Our 50th anniversary is right around the corner (in 2024) and we're planning lots of great exhibitions and events to celebrate the Museum's excellence. One thing we are working on is collecting memories from folks who have been connected to the Ulrich over the years. Whether you are a present or past employee, a donor, volunteer, student, or general visitor, we'd love to hear your favorite memories of the Ulrich. We've created this webpage, which has a form on it, to help you share your stories. The memories we collect will be shared throughout our 50th anniversary celebrations and might even end up in a book we're putting together. We'd love to hear your stories.
