U.S. Rep. Rich McCormick Slammed by Constituents at Townhall Event

McCormick justified 1,300 CDC layoffs as “duplicitous” [sic] because of AI

U.S. Representative Rich McCormick got an irate reception from constituents at a townhall event on Feb 21st, at the Roswell City Hall. On questions ranging from recent layoffs at the CDC to his support for cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, McCormick’s answers were often met with indignant pushback from constituents attending the event.

The loudest boos of the night were reserved for McCormick’s answer about the mass layoffs at the CDC. McCormick claimed the Trump administration’s firing of 1,300 now-former employees was justified because their work is “duplicitous [sic] with AI,” a malapropism he followed by chiding attendees: “I happen to be a doctor; I know a few things.”

McCormick fared little better when repeating his belief that children receiving school lunch were “sponging off the government” or when outlining Republicans’ plans to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid — and predicting the economic downfall of the United States in the process — an answer he punctuated by again chiding his constituents, “nobody can hear when you’re yelling.”

“Rich McCormick’s constituents gave him a rude awakening on Feb 21st, and slammed his approach to governing,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey. “It shouldn’t be news that Georgians reject his plans to wipe out Americans’ retirement and health care.”
