Increased traffic around campus, full classrooms, and the traditional “Doughnut Day” — when President Richard A. Carvajal welcomes random students with free doughnuts on the first day of class — all mark the start of another academic year at Valdosta State University. This year, however, features something else — a renewed sense of optimism.
