Government and Politics
March 5, 2025
From: Delaware Governor Matt MeyerDOVER - On March 5, 2025, Governor Matt Meyer joined CNN This Morning with Audie Cornish to discuss President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress, sharing his perspective on the Trump Administration’s priorities and reaffirming his commitment to delivering for Delawareans.
Governor Meyer highlighted what he sees as a significant disconnect between Republican politicians in DC and the everyday concerns of American families.
“What Americans said last year, last November, I think, is that they wanted their prices to go down. They wanted there to be greater job opportunities in an increasingly digital and AI work environment,” said Governor Meyer. “Those are the issues that the President is not paying attention to, and that’s what we heard almost nothing about last night. Obviously, there’s a lot of uncertainty… Last night, I was hoping to hear answers. This morning, I don’t have answers. I gotta wake up. I gotta write a budget.”

As Washington debates America’s economic future, Governor Meyer is focused on the work ahead.
“I feel a lot of pressure to do the right thing by Delawareans and for Americans,” said Governor Meyer, emphasizing that his administration remains willing to work with the federal government but stressed that his top priority is serving Delawareans and protecting communities. “I can’t stay in Washington and play politics and argue about who’s going to the border. I’ve got to find out how to deliver. In blue areas, red areas, cities, suburbs, rural areas. That’s my job, and that’s what I’m going to do, like the other Democratic governors across the country and, quite frankly, the other Republican governors as well.”
