Waukesha County Parks Celebrates International Bat Week With Special Bat Workshop

Sports and Recreation

October 26, 2023

(Waukesha, WI) – Waukesha County Parks will celebrate and spread awareness of International Bat Week with a very special evening workshop “Wisconsin Bat Basics” at Retzer Nature Center, on October 26 from6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This exciting opportunity to appreciate and support bat populations is led by a trio of area bat experts: Marcus Mueller, owner of Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control; Caroline Frantz, Wisconsin Master Naturalist and Bat Ambassador; and Waukesha County Parks conservation biologist Julia Robson.

“It’s safe to say that bats get a bad rap,” states Robson. “Now we’re excited to spread awareness of the numerous benefits of a healthy bat population in our area. To know one bat’s real value is to treasure all bats.”

Wisconsin Bat Basics attendees can register by Oct 25 at noon at www.WaukeshaCounty.gov/BatBasics; walk-ins are welcome (pending capacity).

International Bat Week is an annual celebration designed to raise awareness about the need for bat conservation. Bats are amazing creatures that are vital to the health of our natural world and economy. Although we may not always see them, bats are hard at work all around the world each night - eating tons of insects, pollinating flowers, and spreading seeds that grow new plants and trees.  Retzer Nature Center is located at S14 W28167 Madison St in Waukesha.
