Frontier, Town Officials Discuss Internet Service

The much-discussed and desired access to higher-speed Internet may become a reality for Norfolk residents in 2023 as Frontier explores the possibility of bringing fiber optic cables to the town. Shorter term, a town meeting Tuesday night will present an update on the progress of remediating the November 5 oil spill.

High-speed Internet: Could it Happen in 2023? 

NORFOLK—Town officials are talking to Frontier about the future of fiber optics in town. Frontier has offered to cover 70 to 80 percent of Norfolk. First Selectman Matt Riiska said, however, that much depends on bringing service to remote sections of the community. Read more

Gas Spill Town Meeting Tuesday

A Town Meeting will be held Tuesday, December 20, at 7:00 p.m. at Botelle School to give the public the latest information about remediation efforts following the November 5 gas spill. The Selectmen have promised monthly meetings while the cleanup continues.

Dawn Whalen Leaving Norfolk Hub 

Dawn Whalen, executive director of the Norfolk Foundation for the past six years, has announced her resignation, effective December 21. Read her letter to residents here.

Norfolk Hub Holiday Open House December 23 

Norfolk Hub will hold a Holiday Open House Friday, December 23, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sweets, snacks and punch will be served.

Petition Seeks Lower Speed in Wake of Gas Spill 

A petition is circulating seeking lower speeds for vehicles traveling through the Botelle School zone. The effort grew out of the Economic Development Commission, which has sought speed restrictions there for some time. The massive November 5 gas spill occurred just below the school. Read more

Holiday Hours at Transfer Station 

The Transfer Station will close at noon Saturday, December 24, and will remain closed December 25 and 26. It reopens December 27. On Saturday, December 31, the transfer station is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is closed on January 1 and  2. It reopens January 3.

Teen Movie Night Friday 

The Teen Advisory Council will present two holiday classic movies Friday, accompanied by some hot chocolate and pizza at the library. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. "Home Alone" starts at 5:30 p.m., with "Die Hard" following. No registration is  required.

Fire Department to Give St. Nick a Hand  

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department will give Santa a hand Christmas Eve, delivering gifts throughout Norfolk. Residents can print and fill out a form, bring their pre-wrapped presents and a suggested donation of $10 per recipient to the Norfolk Fire House on December 19 between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The company will ferry Santa through town December 24.

And Happening Next ... 

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat--poor thing. It's time to join with family and friends in the joy of the season. But there will still be activity in town, such as Christmas services, curling lessons, a children's film festival at the library and a year-ending musical performance there as well.
