YMCA Hosts 35th Annual Battle of the Businesses

The Jamestown Area YMCA’s 35th Annual Battle of Businesses, sponsored by Highmark  BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union and Eventz by Scott, will take place September 9 through September 16, 2023.

The Battle consists of two divisions, a large division (with 121 employees or over) and the small division (with 120 employees or less), made up of national and local-area companies, agencies and organizations.

Competing businesses this year include large division businesses Bush Furniture, Chautauqua County Government, Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care/The Chautauqua Center, Cummins, Falconer Central Schools, Frewsburg Central School, Jamestown BPU, Monofrax, SKF, The Resource Center, TitanX Engine Cooling, Inc. and UPMC Chautauqua.

The Small Division consists of G.A. Family Services at Lutheran/Winning Tree, Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union/Trinity Biotech, Jamestown Bar Association/City Court, JMI, Rehabilitation Specialists/CES/PUMC and Southern Tier Brewing/Distilling Co.  

“The Battle has been a staple event for the local community and YMCA for so many years” said John Barber, Jamestown Area YMCA Vice President of Operations and the director of the YMCA Battle of the Businesses.

“Our YMCA team looks forward to this event every September and ready to further build community through team sportsmanship, employee camaraderie and overall fun.”

Events this year include one-pitch softball, 9-hole golf scramble, bowling, co-ed volleyball, curling, lip sync battle, women’s miniature golf, pickleball, axe throwing, two-person Scrabble tournament, soccer shoot ‘n score, 2-mile walk/run, corn hole tournament, scavenger hunt, build-a-boat contest, Sur”Y”vor challenge, mystery event, and dunk-a-boss.

The weeklong event venues are the Jamestown YMCA, Lakewood YMCA, Bergman Park, Jones and Gifford Park, Maplehurst Country Club, Jamestown Bowling Company, Northwest Arena, Hatchet Hills Hotel, Lakewood Golf Center and Richard O. Hartley Park.

A team captain’s dinner meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 31 at 6 p.m. at the Southern Tier Brewery in Lakewood.
