At A Light of Hope we believe that where there is Light, there is Hope.

A Light of Hope is a fellowship of youth and parents alike, coming together to share their experience, strength and hope with love and understanding among peers. You are welcome here.

What We Provide:

Weekly support group meetings and Alternative Peer Group (APG) activities test and events for youth/young adults and their families.

Why Attend an ALOH Support Group?

We're all discovering a path towards freedom. We learn that we are no longer alone, and find comfort and support through the power of the group. Going to meetings helps us to manage anxiety. Sharing our feelings in a support group is healing and allows us to put our experience into perspective.

We offer parent support group meetings and youth/young adult (age 14-26) group meetings weekly, as well as our fun and sober weekend Alternative Peer Group Activities such as hiking, mountain biking, bowling, barbeques, and movie nights. ALOH also sponsors an Al-Anon meeting and 12 step study.

Parents, and all significant others, including siblings ages 16 and older, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends are invited to attend ALOH parent group support meetings. The more there is family involvement and participation, the more effective their support will be for their loved one in recovery from an unhealthy destructive lifestyle. This will also help in bringing the family unit together in finding support, hope, healing and freedom for all.

What is the "Alternative Peer Group" (APG)?

The APG is one of the most important elements to making recovery sustainable. One of the hardest things for a young person in recovery to do is to figure out what to do with free time that doesn't involve living out a self-destructive lifestyle or hanging out with friends that do.

A key element to recovery includes breaking the ties to old unhealthy friends and change to modeling their behavior after their new healthy and sober friends. We define sobriety as the absence of any alcohol, mind altering drugs and self-destructive actions. This is accomplished by hanging out together in a safe and sober atmosphere - their Alternative Peer Group.

By attending APG's fun and sober activities they can mirror those who have gone before. Central to recovery is social interaction with peers; our young people must learn to build new relationships not centered on destructive and unhealthy behaviors. Our participants have found that a sober life doesn't have to be boring or without enjoyment. We recognize the tremendous power of today's peer group influence, and we seek to channel that in positive ways. Consider participation in the APG as key to your loved one's recovery.
