Mission Statement
Abbeville Presbyterian Church identifies itself as large enough to offer a full program yet small enough to come together in warm and friendly fellowship. We are a traditional PC(USA) congregation. As we practice the reformed faith, guided by the Book of Order and Book of Confessions, we unite as a divergent group of believers to affirm the authority of Scripture. We seek to be a blessing to our community as we endeavor to respond in loving ways to its many needs and concerns. We welcome all of God's people who wish to unite with us to worship and serve the Lord.
About Us
The Abbeville Presbyterian Church seeks to be a blessing to the community as a blending of contrasts within its membership: The Old and The New are seen in the pride of our heritage and in the warm welcome to newcomers who join us in worship. The Young and The Old find a meaningful place to join in worship and fellowship within our congregation.
At the Abbeville Presbyterian Church, we are large enough to provide a variety of programs and worship opportunities. At the same time, we are small enough to come together in warm and caring fellowship.
Church History
The Abbeville Presbyterian Church was organized on April 19, 1868 with fifty-nine charter members. Our present membership is about 225.
The Sanctuary and adjacent rooms were built in 1888 at a cost just under $14,000.00. Official church records of that time said, "As the work progressed, the beauty and completeness of the design became more and more apparent, and now that the conception is realized before us, we are more than satisfied." Over 119 years later, we are inclined to agree.
The 1959 Austin pipe organ was removed and completely refurbished in 2004.
The Educational Building was completed in 1953 to meet the needs of a growing congregation. Well furnished and equipped, it continues to serve our educational needs today.
