The Ada Arts Council was established in 1992 by an enlightened group of 13 members of the Ada community. They included artists, business owners, public officials and others who shared a common interest as expressed in the Arts Council's Articles of Incorporation - "to encourage participation in and the appreciation of the arts by the residents of Ada, Michigan and its environs."
To that end, the Arts Council has engaged in a number of activities over the years. The most visible of these is the annual "Arts in Ada" festival, held annually in May in the heart of Ada Village on Bronson St. Over 50 artists display and sell their work in a wide variety of media, and an outdoor stage features live music and dance performances.
The Arts Council has also hosted featured artist displays and receptions, photography exhibits and competitions, art classes and workshops, and annually awards a scholarship to a student in either the performing or visual arts at Grand Valley State University.
The Council is governed and administered by a volunteer Board of Directors, which may have up to 13 members.
Having no paid staff, the work of the Council is entirely volunteer-driven by its Board members and others interested in making a contribution of their expertise and interest.
The Ada Council for the Arts is a nonprofit organization. Ada is a wonderful, cultural place to live, work and be inspired all within a nurturing environment that supports the arts and community participation.
