About Us:
ABS is a small rural elementary school serving kindergarten through grade six. Classes consist of both single grade and multi-grade classrooms. The Primary Unit includes single grade classes for K and 1, with a 2 and 3 multi-grade class. The Intermediate Unit is comprised of one multi age class (4 and 5) and a single grade class for grade 6. ABS hosts a full day kindergarten program. The current elementary school population is 63 students. After completing sixth grade, Brownsville students may attend a middle/high school of family choice. Full tuition is paid to public schools while state average tuition is paid to approved private schools.
Along with traditional academic courses, ABS offers Spanish, Art, Music and Physical Education. Volunteers bring "hands-on" science lessons through VINS, (Vermont Institute of Natural Science). Primary students have a monthly ELF lesson, (Environmental Learning for the Future), while Intermediate students participate in EC, (Environmental Citizenship). After school events include Homework Club, athletics, and music lessons.
In 2004, residents supported a bond issue to renovate and expand our physical plant. The new ABS structure offers many opportunities for educating Brownsville's growing preschool population.
Visitors are welcome to tour our school at their convenience.
