Our Mission
The mission of the Apostolic Faith Church is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We accomplish this as we:
Pray - We make prayer the basis of every ministry and encourage communion with God as the way we grow to spiritual maturity in Him.
Preach - We emphasize the original Pentecostal doctrines of salvation, sanctification, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, continually striving to develop fully committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
Publish - We publish the Gospel through the printed word, the spoken word, and through our personal lives, daily looking for opportunities to spread the message, "Ye must be born again."
A Little Background :
The Apostolic Faith Church is a worldwide religious organization, with international headquarters in Portland, Oregon. Our roots stem from a 1906 revival on Azusa Street in Los Angeles. On Christmas Day of that year, the founder of our work, Florence L. Crawford, came to Portland, and we mark that as the official beginning of our work.
Since 1906, our organization has grown and established branch churches in the United States and around the world. We currently have more than fifty churches in the United States. Our international outreach includes congregations on most continents, including more than 600 churches in Nigeria alone.
As a Trinitarian and fundamental church, our doctrinal beliefs are the simple Bible truths. All Apostolic Faith churches uphold the same doctrinal structure. Each branch is under the leadership of the Portland headquarters, and is independent of any other religious group. The President of our organization, and Superintendent General of our churches worldwide is Reverend Darrel D. Lee, who has held this position since July 2000. Reverend Lee is also the pastor of our Portland congregation.
Every year during the first two weeks of July, we hold our annual international camp meeting convention in Portland, Oregon. Believers from around the world attend and find it a refreshing and spiritually challenging time. The schedule includes Bible teachings, youth services, and evangelistic meetings, as well as many other activities. Similar Apostolic Faith Church camp meetings are held annually in several other areas around the world.
A primary means of evangelism in the Apostolic Faith Church is the printing and distribution of Christian literature. We publish a quarterly magazine entitled Higher Way, which is designed to encourage spiritual growth in believers (available online, or by mail). We also print numerous pamphlets and small booklets designed to lead people to the Lord. A unique feature of this ministry is that we never sell our publications. They are printed and mailed throughout the world free of charge. In over ninety years of literature ministry, God has provided financially for this outreach through tithes and offerings, even though collections are never taken in our services.
