Mission:
The mission of ArtCenter - South Florida is to advance the knowledge and practice of contemporary visual arts and culture in South Florida through education, exhibition and public outreach programming and to provide affordable work-space for outstanding visual artists in all stages of career development.
History:
The ArtCenter/ South Florida, established in 1984, is an access point for
artists, curators, and visitors alike. Lincoln Road affords the ArtCenter and
all of its programs a high level of visibility however; it is the community
involvement and the integrity of ArtCenter's programming that qualifies the ACSF
as a major cultural institution.
Residencies are awarded to artists that have not had the opportunity to expose
their work to a wide audience. Aside from subsidized studio spaces, programming
geared towards career development puts ArtCenter Artists in direct contact with
some of the most prominent Curators, Gallerists, and Collectors in South
Florida.
The ACSF has one of the most rigorous non-profit exhibition schedules in South
Florida. A monthly exhibition schedule allows for comprehensive programming and
assures that the ACSF can react to current trends. Curatorial initiatives from
outside sources are the make-up of the majority of ACSF exhibits. ArtCenter
exhibitions primarily focus on contemporary media, current aesthetic issues,
contextual linkages, and community awareness.
For the benefit of the community as a whole, the ACSF also offers extensive
educational programming throughout the year. Art classes are taught in a wide
range of media at varying skill levels. Ranging from Lecture Series to
Children's Workshops the ACSF truly does have something for everyone.
