The Auburn Police Department is responsible for providing quality police services to the community 24 hours a day. This includes, but is not limited to, answering calls for service, crime prevention, enforcement of laws, and protecting property within the town limits. The department consists of 17 sworn officers and 3 civilian personnel commanded by the Chief of Police, serving a resident community of approximately 5,100 and responding to almost 8,000 calls for service annually. The department performs service functions through three divisions: Office of the Chief of Police, Patrol Division, and Detective Division.
The Office of the Chief of Police manages the overall activities of the department by planning, assessing, and staffing in a manner that most effectively delivers police services to the community. This division is also responsible for public information activities, planning and research, policy development, and budget oversight.
The Patrol Division is dedicated to providing around the clock uniformed police services. This division answers calls for service, conducts preliminary investigations, and arrests violators of town ordinances and state statutes. The division also includes a canine unit, motorcycle unit, bicycle unit, O.H.R.V. unit and a D.A.R.E. Officer.
The Detective Division is responsible for the investigation of crimes of a serious nature. Some of these crimes include Homicides, assaults, robberies, burglaries, thefts, frauds, sexual assaults, sexual related crimes, and drug investigations. The division also is responsible for crimes involving juveniles.
