The original building was built in 1966. It included the gym, office, rooms 1-4, library, kitchen, rooms 17-20 and room 21-24. In 1968 rooms 5-8 were added on, and in 1974 rooms 13-16 were added on. In 1975 the trailer was added and in 1978 rooms 9-12 were added. We have 25 classrooms. The total building is 55,000 square feet.
In 1966 there were 270 students in grades 1-6. In 1979, there were 620 students. By 1989, there were only 490 students due to the down-turn in Oregon’s economy and the lumber industry. We currently have a staff of 60 adults working with 480 students in grades K-4. In the fall of 1996 two of the four classrooms of fifth graders were moved to Turner Elementary School due to space concerns and student numbers. In the fall of 1997, the remaining two fifth grade classrooms were moved to Turner Elementary, making Aumsville Elementary a K-4 building. The sixth grade students were moved to Cascade Jr. High school in 1994 due to over-crowding.
