Aurora ... a small town offering the Best of Most World's! Located in the heart of Richland Township, Aurora is full of friendly faces and interesting places. Happy times await you - whether its fishing, hunting, sailing, powerboating, fossil finding or simply relaxing.
Situated along the peaceful, protected shores of South Creek, a tributary of the Pamlico River, and only about 5 miles from the Intercoastal Waterway, the area is a safe haven for pleasure sailboats, powerboats and commercial vessels. Several housing developments are located along the many, many miles of waterfront property. The living is easy and the climate is moderate with a mean annual temperature of 62 degrees, an average rainfall of 50 inches and snowfall averages 3 - 3 1/2 inches per year.
Aurora is very proud of its services. The Town Hall is a restored historic home. Modern, well trained police, fire and rescue departments provide around the clock protection for the area. Beaufort County Hospital provides local health care through the Aurora Medical Center. Along with Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, there is Craven Regional Medical Center located in New Bern and both are a mere 30 minutes away. Pitt County Memorial Hospital, located in Greenville - about an hour from Aurora - offers an ever expanding university teaching hospital complex.
Richland Township is the home of numerous civic organizations and churches of many denominations serving the needs of the community. S. W. Snowden Elementary School (K-5) and Aurora Middle School (6-8) are located in the town of Aurora and Southside High School (9-12) offers a modern educational facility just minutes down the road. Nearby Beaufort County Community College, Pamlico County Community College and East Carolina University offer opportunities beyond the high school level including continuing education and technical training.
