The Town of Somerset, New York is a rural lakeside community located in the most eastern portion of Niagara County, on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Established in 1823 as a farming community, we remain a community that is a rich rural area with many picturesque dairy and fruit farms, producing some of the finest fruits and vegetables in the USA. The historic Seaway Trail travels through our town via Route 18.
Somerset is proudly the home to the Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse and Golden Hill State Park Marina and Campground. The campground has been named a top 100 park in the United States of America. The lighthouse was featured as the designated Lake Ontario lighthouse in the Great Lakes Lighthouse Stamp collection in 1995. We are also home to the beautiful historical Babcock Cobblestone House Museum, which is the Welcome Center for Somerset and run by the Town of Somerset Historical Society.
The Village of Barker is located in the center of our town and boasts wonderful shops, restaurants, businesses, post office and library. We are also home to the fabulous Barker Central School, which offers top-notch educational opportunities for our children and is the home of many award-winning sports and academic teams.
Somerset is actively pursuing companies to locate to our quaint little town. Companies that share our vision for a future in high technology melded with the serenity of a proud and historic past. It is our hope to have our business community work much like our residential community. We are a community that works together for the good of all.
We are approximately 45 minutes from Niagara Falls to the west and 60 miles from Rochester to the east.
