The Beaver Island Rural Health Center wants to let you know about the Affordable Care Act and its impact on you and our community. We will upgrade information in future newsletters and on our website. We will be hosting a community wide meeting in August to further explain the impact of the Affordable Care Act and answer your questions personally.
The Affordable Care Act was passed by Congress, and then signed into law by President Obama, on March 23rd, 2010. On June 28th, 2012, the Supreme Court rendered a final decision to uphold the majority of the health care law. The court overturned the penalty, in the form of reduced federal funding, for states that refused to expand Medicaid.
A primary goal of the Affordable Care Act is universal coverage for essentially all Americans. The law focuses primarily on expanding health care coverage and also includes provisions intended to control health care costs, improve the health care delivery system and protect consumers.
