Benicia Middle School, located on the west side of Benicia, north of the freeway, serves approximately 1350 students in grades 6-8. The school opened in September 1976 and was rededicated in 1995 following a two-year modernization and expansion program. In 2000, a new music building, additional restrooms, ramps, and staircases allowing easier access to lower classrooms and athletic fields, were added.
Benicia Middle School was selected as a California Distinguished School, a two-time winner of the Golden Bell Award, and a National Blue Ribbon School. Education is a shared process at Benicia Middle School. Our staff, students, parents, and community work continuously to maintain a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment. We are committed to each individual's personal growth as we are to academic excellence. We believe the overall emphasis of the programs, services, and strategies used at our school should be to:
Teach learning as a life-long process and as a self-directed independent and group responsibility.
Allow students to develop to their full individual potential.
Promote responsible behavior.
Align to a core curriculum and promote one's ability to problem-solve and communicate effectively.
Foster a sense of self-worth, belonging, pride, and fulfillment in all.
