Mission Statement:
Bethany's mission is to reach lost and spiritually displaced people for God's Kingdom and grow them into fully devoted followers of Jesus.
History:
LaPorte's Bethany Lutheran Church was established in 1857 by Swedish immigrants settling in the area. Their first church, the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church was on D Street.
The current building at First and G Streets was constructed in 1883-84. The Educational Wing was added in 1967 as the congregation continued to grow and minister to the city. Church records take special notice that the old D Street church was built at a cost of about $2,265; figures that say something about the remarkable changes that have taken place in the nation's economy over the past century.
