In the spring of 1991 Pastor Scheving, of Fargo Baptist Church, contacted Pastor Custer at Bible Baptist Church (formerly in East Grand Forks, MN, now located in Grand Forks, ND) concerning the need of a preacher to start an Independent New Testament Baptist Church in Wahpeton, ND. Pastor Custer ask me to pray about coming to Wahpeton. At that time neither Pastor Custer nor I could get peace about me coming to Wahpeton. It was at Family Camp in 1992 that God burdened me with the need in Wahpeton for a good, Bible preaching-teaching Independent Baptist Church. Through prayer, fasting, and Biblical counseling God's call for the Roets family was made sure.
Fargo Baptist had located a possible building in which to begin the church. The process of purchasing it began at the same time as the Roets began seeking support for this work in February 1993. An earnest payment was made on the building, and the purchase was to be finalized at the end of October 1993. After four months of raising support in the upper mid-west, in May, the Roets started traveling throughout the central United States gaining financial and prayerful support for the work of planting a church and reaching the lost in Wahpeton. The Lord took them on their journey and brought them back in time to finalize the purchase of the building in time to take possession on November 1, 1993. God had provided for both living quarters for the Roets Family and church facilities in the same building. We moved in on November 1, of 1993 with the help of Pastor Berg and Grafton Baptist Church.
Two weeks later on November 14,1993 the first service of Bible Baptist church was held. The first service began with 14 in attendance.
The church has grown slowly but surely, with faithful people growing in the Lord and giving of themselves and their finances to get the work done. Many visitors have come and gone, but out of them God has chosen a special group to be the nucleus for building a church that would bring glory to Him! God worked in the lives of each individual to convict them of the need to be a part of this work. Some of these people were saved and baptized through this work, others were already saved but in need of a solid church in which to grow and serve.
On November 16, 2001 Bible Baptist Church of Wahpeton, ND oraganized with 20 members signing the charter!
God, in His great wisdom, put a people here who have a heart to reach the lost both here, and around the world!
