Scout Troop 101, in Rochester Hills, Michigan, 25 miles north of Detroit, is a chartered unit of the Boy Scouts of America, in the Ojibwa District of the Clinton Valley Council. It is sponsored by the Rochester Area Scouting Committee, Inc., and was first chartered in April, 1989.
The troop program is camping focused and we have an outdoor event almost every month. We camp in tents year round (including January and February in the cold and snow). Our monthly weekend campouts are usually in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, or Ontario. Other events include summer camp (1 week), high adventure camping (4-10 days), service projects and parades. Parents are always welcome to attend. We rarely participate in District Camporees, but our older scouts may attend the National Jamboree.
Troop 101 is facilitated by adult leaders and run by youth leaders. Leadership is in the hands of the Patrol Leader Council, which decides on the Troop program and camping activities. The PLC is made up of the Senior Patrol (SPL, ASPL, Scribe, and QM) and the Patrol Leaders. Youth run implies less organized than adult run. Youth leadership experience is an important part of the progarm. If you understand this objective and are comfortable with managed chaos, then please consider Troop 101.
Our Troop Parent Committee is composed of all parents other than the Scoutmasters. Many parents are formally registered as Committee Members. Meetings are on the first Monday of each month during the regular troop meeting. Parent participation is essential to support the overall Troop program. Parents are encouraged (but not required) to be active as an Assistant Scoutmaster or as a Committee member.
Troop expenses are funded by dues from each Scout, activity fees, and fundraising events. All Scouts and families are expected to take part in fundraising. We have raised fees so that we do much less fundraising than we used to. Dues and fundraiser obligations must be paid up to date for Scouts to participate in advancement, campouts, and other activities.
The required troop uniform includes a custom t-shirt, Scout Hat, and Neckerchief, available only from the Troop Quartermaster. The first set is included in your joining fee
