Brick P.A.L has put togther a mentoring program targeting youth form 11-17 in atempt to lower the dropout rate in schools. Our program sets up youth with peer or adult mentors once a week at the St. Thomas building. Its designed to give the mentees to talk with someone other the their parents on the issues that trouble intrest and are lurking around the courner.
The volunteer mentoring program requires a Criminal Background Screening or Parent Permission for Peer Mentoring , followed by an interview .That gives us a chance to get to now your personality interests, sense of humor and other qualities that will help us match you up with a mentee that best suits you. All mentors are invited to orientation in which you will have the opportunity to meet his/her mentee and their parents which will be held at the Police Athletic League. All meetings after between mentors and mentee's will also be held at the P.A.L building
Mentors will be trained with a series of drop out prevention DVDs and training session. The mentoring training agenda includes: Program policies and procedures, physical contact, involvement of family, crisis management, problem-solving, building self- esteem group actives, and skills you may need and pass on to you mentee.
