In 1977, the leadership of the Broadway congregation decided to invite Brother Allen Isbell to become the Sunday morning pulpit minister. Brother Isbell, a practicing attorney in Houston and a gospel preacher, was preaching on Sunday morning for the Anahuac Church of Christ. Brother John Paul Isbell, who was a medical student at the time, was instrumental in bringing Brother Isbell to the Galveston congregation. Brother Isbell preached for the Broadway church on Sunday morning for a total of 16 years, resigning as a pulpit minister in January of 1993. Brother Isbell and his wife Mikey commuted from Spring, Texas each Lord's Day for a number of years to teach the Adult Bible Class and "break the bread of life" in the morning worship service. Several years after beginning the work in Galveston, the Isbells' established a permanent residence on the island. Today, Brother Isbell teaches the adult Bible Class and serves as pulpit preacher 3 Sundays a month. Brother Isbell continues to serve as a trustee of the Broadway Church of Christ.
