Brown Middle School

228 South Scranton Street
330-296-3849

Brown Middle School is named in honor of H. Larry Brown. Mr. Brown attended public schools in Columbiana County. After high school, he enrolled at Mt. Union College in Alliance. His college years were interrupted by World War I. After serving in the army in France, Mr. Brown returned to his studies and athletics at Mt. Union and graduated in 1921. He came to Ravenna Township as a teacher of science and coached everything. Later he joined the staff at Ravenna High School as a math teacher, and the next year was appointed the high school principal. Fourteen years later, in 1939, Mr. Brown was chosen to be the superintendent of the Ravenna Schools, a post he held for the next 23 years. In total, Mr. Brown devoted 42 consecutive years of service to Ravenna Schools. During that time he was an active community leader and a member and president of the Ravenna Kiwanis Club. Mr. Brown was inducted into the Raven Hall of Fame in 1991 for "inspiring all who knew him and worked with him." He really was a terrific person and an inspirational leader.

Brown Middle School is home to approximately 540 students and 80 staff members in grades 6-8.  As part of our District reorganization in 2008, 6th grade students joined Brown from Rausch Intermediate School. Over the years, Brown has been a 7-9, 7-8, and a 6-8 middle school.
