History :
The Lions Club of Baton Rouge was organized by thirty Charter Members in September, 1927.
It was the third Lions Club chartered in the State of Louisiana, after Shreveport and Bossier City.
Over the years the Lions Club of Baton Rouge has sponsored the formation of 48 new Lions Clubs throughout south Louisiana.
The North Baton Rouge Lions Club, formed in 1940, thrived for over fifty years. However, as demographics changed and in order to maintain the viability of the club's dedicated members, NBR made the difficult decision to merge back into its sponsoring club. In 1993, under President Phil Waggenspack, our Downtown Baton Rouge Lions Club welcomed theLions from North Baton Rouge Lions Club." Because there are now multiple Lions Clubs in Baton Rouge, our club, which is chartered as "Lions Club of Baton Rouge, Inc.", is now referred to as the Downtown Baton Rouge Lions Club.
