Mission:
Our mission is to cultivate the arts within the community; to encourage participation in and appreciation of the arts, and to identify and promote talented individuals in the community.
About Us
It began as a Chamber of Commerce committee to promote art in the community. It has survived through periods of prosperity and hard times. It has evolved into a fully matured organization concentrating on expanding aspects of the performing and visual arts. In short, it is the “Art and Soul of our Community” – the Arts Council.
In 1979, when the County Conservation Board decided to appoint a group to oversee and promote cultural activities at the newly renovated College Hill Center Theatre, the Chamber’s Arts Committee jumped at the chance to take on the role. The newly-named Brownsville-Haywood County Arts Council embarked on a 32-year journey to expose our community to art in all its various forms.
