History:

Our church began over one hundred years ago while Brush was still a struggling cow town. A woman living at 119 N. Railway, Mrs. J.P. Kimsey, wanted to begin a Methodist Church in her home, she extended an invitation to Rev. Cassey in 1883 to hold a devotional service in her home.

The response to Mrs. Kimsey's efforts was overwhelming. "Everyone in town came," she wrote. That meant that there were about twenty-five people in attendance because that was the population of Brush. Because there were not enough chairs, people sat on boxes and even the bed. This was the humble beginning of what was to become the Methodist Episcopal Church of Brush.

Even though the Methodist Church in neighboring Fort Morgan , the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush and others began during this time, the Methodist Church in Brush was officially organized in 1897, and its first minister, Rev. Harold W. Moore, was appointed in 1899. It was officially incorporated with the state of Colorado on October 4, 1898 under the name "The Methodist Episcopal Church of Brush."

Having served the congregation for nearly sixty years, however, the original church building could no longer serve their needs, so in 1956, with the arrival of Rev. Thomas Fletcher, the church was ready to build a new building. Land was purchased at 1701 Edmunds Street, and on Palm Sunday, April 10, 1960,the first worship service was held in the new building. There have been numerous improvements made to the building since then, such as the bell tower in 1997 that contains the bell that rang in the steeple of the original church, and the latest improvement being a new elevator added in 2006.
