Canaan Middle School
Canaan Middle School is a dynamic institution that is dedicated to the belief that all students can learn and thrive in a rich educational environment. We continually explore educational theory and practice to allow students to reach their fullest potential. This commitment has helped us to evolve into a Professional Learning Community, where the school is organized as a place for the adults to learn as well as the students. We believe greatness is not a place of rest but an on-going journey which challenges our staff to practice continous improvement, reflection, goal setting and evaluation. With the support of the Board of Education, administration, teaching staff, and parents, we are able to provide an environment conducive to learning and growth.
Canaan Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 310 fifth and sixth grade students. Our mission is to prepare all of these students for the 21st century. In a nurturing environment, we provide challenging curriculum, meaningful instruction, and a variety of learning experiences to meet their needs. We also provide a schedule that allows our three academic teams to perfect scheduling options which include blocking, varied length of time for classes, minimal interruptions for assemblies, intervention and enrichment opportunities. Both the fifth and sixth grade students take the five core subjects: Math, English, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education along with Art Technology for fifth grade students and Technology for sixth grade students. All of our students have the opportunity to take electives. In addition, each student has an advisor-advisee time everyday.
Our staff, comprised of 28 full-time personnel, is committed to students and their learning. They recognize the individual differences in our students and through instruction and lesson design provide learning experiences that meet students' needs and abilities. Our teachers have a strong understanding of their subject matter and continually try to find ways to link that subject matter to other disciplines. Our goal is to become one of the best middle schools in Ohio. We truly take pride in our school and in the rich and rewarding experiences we offer our students.
