About Us:
The East Bay Miracles is a volunteer chapter of Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). We are a group of volunteers who come together to support the mission of CCI in the Bay Area from Albany to Livermore to Concord and those cities in between.
CCI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve the needs of people with disabilities by providing trained assistance dogs and continuing support to ensure the success of the working team.
The East Bay Miracle members are volunteers who support CCI's mission with their time, special skills, and dedication. Our members include Puppy Raisers, Breeder Caretakers, Graduate Teams and volunteers. We hold fundraising events and public education activities to raise awareness about CCI, in addition to supporting each other in our efforts to volunteer for CCI.
Whether it's turning on a light switch for a wheelchair user or alerting a person who is hearing impaired to the sound of a fire alarm, a Canine Companion helps make independent living a reality for a person with a disability. CCI trains 4 types of assistance dogs: Service Dogs, Hearing Dogs, Facility Dogs and Skilled Companion Dogs. In addition, as part of its Wounded Veteran Initiative, the organization places assistance dogs with disabled veterans throughout the country.
Canine Companions for Independence is the largest assistance organization in the world.
