Built in 1961, Carl G. Renn Elementary School was named for former resident Dr. Carl Grover Renn, who was an area physican.  Renn was born in Jordan Township near Unityville in 1885.  He opened a medical practice in Lairdsville in 1917 and was very active in several organizations in the area.  He died six years before the building was opened.

As one of three elementary schools in the East Lycoming School District, Renn houses 227 students and 21 teachers.  It has grown twice, during renovation projects that added classrooms in 1986 and 1990.
