Hours: Year Round
Our vineyard is seated along the rolling hills of Eastern Appalachia's Catoctin Mountains. Superb soil drainage, combined with few nutrients within the limestone soil naturally forces the vine to send its roots deep into the ground in search of water, creating a stress on the vines that produces grapes of richer flavor. True to our name, the site of our vineyard enjoys a constant breeze from the Catoctin Mountains each day and night, bringing much needed relief during the summer heat and humidity.
Catoctin Breeze Vineyard was officially established in early 2010 with the planting of the first two plots of vines on the property, covering approximately two acres. Our first harvest of these plots was completed in late summer 2012. A third plot of vines has since been planted, covering an additional two acres. We anticipate the first harvest of this plot in late summer 2015.
We firmly believe that great wines start in the vineyard. From the beginning, we provide thoughtful attention and care to the vines. This same level of care and diligence continues during the winemaking process, in which we practice the most gentle methods, from the hand selection and sorting of mature grapes to the final bottling stage. Our ultimate goal is to transform the grapes into elegant wines, nuanced with the unique expression of the land from which they are grown.
