History:

Chapin Presbyterian Church was born out of prayer, vision, and commitment.

Seeing the growing population of Chapin during the early 2000s, leaders at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church sought to establish a Bible-teaching congregation of believers in Chapin as many members were traveling great distances to attend worship services and weekly activities. In early 2002, St. Andrews agreed to begin the process to plant a PCA fellowship in our area and a small group of organizers began to form. Rev. Dan Ratchford, an assistant pastor at St. Andrews, was approached to lead the church planting effort.

The first service of Chapin Presbyterian Church was held on November 3, 2002, at Chapin Elementary School with a total of two hundred in attendance. The Chapin community responded well to the new church and attendance grew quickly.

On October 26, 2003, the Palmetto Presbytery formally organized Chapin Presbyterian Church. Elders were elected from the congregation and a pastoral search committee was formed all while attendance continued to grow. In December 2003, Rev. Dan Ratchford was formally called as senior pastor.

In 2004, fourteen acres of land were purchased on Old Lexington Highway and ground was broken on March 20, 2005. The new church building opened on October 29, 2006.

The church facilities were expanded in 2011 to meet the needs of Sunday school and staff offices.

After years of faithful service, Rev. Ratchford retired to rural ministry in late 2015, preparing the way for the next chapter in God’s story for Chapin Presbyterian Church.
