In 1961, three business associates noticed decling numbers of ruffed grouse in their Virginia forests so they decided to start an organization to draw attention and assistance for their treasured upland game bird. With a little effort, they were able to enlist the help of other grouse enthusiasts and soon the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) was established. RGS is a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to improving the environment for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and a variety of forest wildlife speciest that include white-tail deer, rabbits and many different types of songbirds.
