Our History

The village of West Chester was mostly farmland in 1969 when Christ the King Church was formed by a group of 33 people. Membership is now comprised of over 400 confirmed members and children. Christ the King (CtK) met in area school gymnasiums during the first 13 years. Reverend Timothy Roehrs led the congregation through the first two years as a mission developer. Reverend Ronald M. Redder was called in 1971 and lead the congregation through many changes and challenges until his retirement in 1998.

Ground for a permanent home for Christ the King was finally broken in May 1982. At first it housed a sanctuary and a few classrooms. In 1993 the sanctuary was remodeled, and more Sunday School space and administration area was added.

Christ the King began life as a mission congregation on the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, later becoming part of the American Lutheran Church in order to fulfill a growing mission in the West Chester/Mason area and the decision to build in this area. The American Lutheran Church joined the Lutheran Church in American and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in a merger in 1989, to become the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Over the years, the staff and program at Christ the King has grown and changed in response to the changing community and the growing resources of talent and leadership our members bring. We continue to seek new ways to fulfill our mission to bring the good news of God's love through nurturing relationships with others, while building on the rich traditions of our heritage. God has blessed us, and we are called to be a blessing to others through our ministry and fellowship at Christ the King.
