Christian Fellowship Church Of Columbus
History
Like many churches, CFC grew from modest beginnings. In the early 1970's Dick Gauch, a local businessman, inspired by the saving power of God's love for him and his family began counseling and discipling others in need. For nearly a decade Pastor Dick ministered to anyone who needed help from his home. In 1980, a formal ministry was created - Fellowship of Christian Students. This new ministry's charter was "to minister to the needs of the individual and their families through the transforming power of Jesus Christ."
By 1983, Fellowship of Christian Students organization had grown into offices in Upper Arlington. God continued to bless the ministry and in 1984, the ministry's name changed to Fellowship of Christian Ministries. Soon after, as an extension of the counseling ministry, a small group began regularly meeting at Pastor Dick's home for worship services. It was at this time that Pastor Dick Gauch and others realized that God was beginning a new local church. The church continued to grow and by 1988 began meeting in Upper Arlington schools.
In the early 1990's the church leadership began praying about a permanent church home. In 1992, God provided two adjacent pieces of land in northwest Columbus. The church purchased both properties and in 1993 opened the ranch offices on 5970 Godown Rd. and also began holding Sunday services during summer months on newly purchased property. During the same time, the church began the Nehemiah project to construct a permanent worship center on Godown Rd. Ground was officially broken during the summer of 1994 which also marked another significant milestone - Pastor Mike Gauch, led by God's calling, joined the full-time church staff.
In November 1995, we took permanent occupancy of the church facilities we now enjoy. The mid-late 1990's saw many exciting developments at CFC. As we settled into our new church home our ministries expanded to include mens & womens focused programs, youth programs targeted by age group, a Wednesday Night Praise & Prayer service, health & wellness classes and semi-annual topical classes & seminars.
In 2000, the Fellowship of Christian Ministries marked 20 years of serving the central Ohio community and was renamed to Family Life Ministries. After almost 20 years of service Pastor Dick Gauch retired from full time ministry in January 2004.
From the beginning CFC has wanted to be a place where repentant sinners find the forgiveness in Christ, where the hurting can be healed by the God of all comfort and where believers are encouraged and challenged by the Word of God. Another goal is that our services have sound biblical teaching and experiential worship at their core. We have desired that every person connected to us would grow and serve the body of Christ, connecting at various levels with their brothers and sisters in Christ. CFC is classified as a "non-denominational" and / or "independent" church. This means that, currently, we are not affiliated with a national or international denominational group. Well aware of the dangers in this, we have implemented a biblical system of accountability that involves Pastors, Elders, Deacons and the church members.
