About Us:
Ten years before Nebraska became a state, John O. Adams, left his Indiana farm and settled in the Nemaha Valley of Gage County, Nebraska. It was 1857 and he was Adams' first settler. The town was considered officially founded in 1873, when John Adams made generous concessions to the railroad in return for the railroad laying their tracks through town. Local legend says that part of John Adams' land concession included the stipulation that liquor be forever prohibited from the town. His temperance clause was upheld until 1996.

The community of Adams is proud to continue long standing traditions into the 22nd century such as the Fourth of July Picnic and Community Day Celebration. Main Street houses Klein Hardware operated by third and fourth generation citizens and direct descendants of the founders of the Adams State Bank are still behind the counter. A strong religious faith is the cornerstone of the community and the new Daniel Freeman School built in 1998 supports the community's dedication to excellence in education.
