About Us
Farrell is a 103-year old community in southwestern Mercer County, positioned along the Pennsylvania/Ohio border. It was formed around the beginnings of the full scale steel industry and its citizens – many of whom worked at Sharon Steel – helped the company become one of the leading producers of steel in the world. All along the peaks, valleys, and river beds of western Pennsylvania, the complete manufacture of steel was the spur to the birth, growth and stabilization of municipalities at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. The City of Farrell is surely—and proud to be—one of that number. While the steel industry has experienced some faded glory in the past several decades, Farrell remains focused on building a strong, bright future through coordinated community and economic development initiatives.
