On August 6, 1901 the Kiowa, Comanche, Apache, Wichita, and Caddo Indian land was opened for settlement by the method of drawing lots. Two stations for registration were set up, one at El Reno the other at Lawton. There were 3-1/2 million acres, divided into 6,500 claims of 160 acres each to be given out. 179,00 persons registered. In the El Reno district was the location of the future town of Hinton.
Established May 12, 1902.
May 12, 1902, the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad purchased a plot for establishing a new town on their spur which ran from Enid to Lawton.
