Lancaster, South Carolina is a flourishing community and the county seat of lancaster County. With a population of over 8,000, Lancaster has maintained its small town charm. Located at the intersection of a number of US and State highways, Lancaster has quick, convenient access to larger cities such as Charlotte, North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Lancaster is well known for being the corporate home of KMG America, Springs Industries, and Duracell.
The City of Lancaster and Lancaster County are booming, with rapid growth between Lancaster and Charlotte, North Carolina. Assisting in its strong economy are a number of industrial/commercial parks, rail service by both CSX Railroad and the Lancaster & Chester Railway. The Lancaster County Airport which accommodates corporate jets and private planes, and our proximity to a number of transportation options, such as Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte's Amtrak station, and Norfolk Southern's intermodal rail hub in Charlotte. Lancaster is within 60 miles of I-20, I-26, I-77, I-85 and I-95.
Lancaster's busy and historic downtown is a popular destination. It is home to two buildings designed by Robert Mills, America's first native architect and the designer of the Washington Monument. The Courthouse is still in use today and the old jail now houses Emergency Management offices and Tax Commission offices.
You don't have to travel outside of Lancaster to find excellent shopping and dining. The city has numerous family owned and national chain restaurants. We also have accommodations including bed and breakfast inns and national chain motels. A local bed and breakfast and restaurant, Kilburnie - The Inn at Craig Farm and Charley's Cafe, were featured in a recent issue of Southern Living magazine.
