About Us:
In 1819, the City of Lawrenceburg became the county seat for Lawrence County, Tennessee. Frontiersman David Crockett called Lawrence County home and has left an indelible mark on our community. The immigration of an Amish community north of town in 1944 has added another dimension to our culture.
Lawrenceburg is the birthplace of Southern Gospel music and was the hometown of James Vaughan, the father of Southern Gospel! The famous Vaughan School of Music was established in Lawrenceburg, and the Vaughan Museum is a popular attraction on the Square.
Other famous residents of Lawrenceburg include former State Senator Fred Thompson, now an actor appearing on the hit TV show Law and Order. Many will remember his performance in the movie Hunt for Red October. The late Michael Jeter, best known for his TV role in Evening Shade and his movie role in The Green Mile, also had roots in Lawrenceburg.
