About the City:
The City of Maywood is a General Law city that operates under the Council, Chief Administrative Officer form of government. All departments report to and receive direction from the Chief Administrative Officer.
History:
The Laguna Land & Water Company, owners and subdividers of Maywood, was incorporated under the laws of the State of California, December 3rd, 1912, for the purpose of purchasing the famous old de Baker Rancho from the Estate of the finest soil in Los Angeles County, It had constituted an impassable barrier in the path of Los Angeles and for years had impeded the growth of the city in this direction while surrounding properties were being subdivided and developed in acres, half-acres and city lots. Comprehensive plans for the developing of this vast holding into a self-supporting community were made and a small part of the rancho was subdivided and offered for public sale.
Not until May, 1919, however, when the district was christened "Maywood," did the real activity in connection with this development commerce, and a remarkable record of achievements has resulted from the expansion and execution of the original plans.
