To provide a comprehensive program of recreation and leisure activities that allows opportunities for young people to expand their horizons and explore new experiences. The Division offers a variety of traditional and non-traditional programs toward this goal. They include the following: drama, soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, flag football, swimming, golf, structured playgrounds, art instruction and a variety of special events.
The Division of Recreation is responsible for various recreation programs and special events. The Division operates two recreation centers, the Rivera Neighborhood Service Center and three Weed & Seed Safe Havens. Program opportunities at these sites range from social to education and offer children a structured alternative for after school and summer enrichment. Additionally, the Division is responsible for the City's Summer Feeding Program, Summer Playground Program and the Summer Swimming Program. We host a variety of special events such as May Day Celebration, Black History Month, Annual Fishing Derby and the Children's Christmas Party.
