The City of York, located in the western part of York County, is on the threshold of significant change which has not been experienced in the past 20 years. Much of this change is being driven by the rapid growth in the Charlotte Metro Area that has become the dominant urban, transportation, and economic hub of the Carolinas.
The City of York is positioned equidistant between the I-77 and I-85 corridors. York has been an important urban center since the late 18th Century; its future will depend largely on decisions made in the late 1990s, which will provide the foundation for the growth patterns for the 21st Century.
York is the county seat of York County and enjoys an intimate character of a small friendly community with a strong historic core and a traditional lifestyle offering a desirable alternative to life in the larger metro areas.
