2006 is promising to be a very exciting year as the 20th congressional district is getting ready for a very strong candidate for the United States Congress. The Clifton Park Democratic Committee along with the Saratoga County Democratic Committee have endorsed Kirsten Gillibrand as our candidate for the US Congress.

In November of 2004 Robert Reilly was elected to the NY State Assembly to represent us in the 109th district. This historic election represents the first time that a Democrat has been elected to this office. This electoral victory was the result of the hard work of a lot of people. These efforts should continue to increase our representation at all levels of government.

Our party puts into practice the belief that government should be open to all people. We are a community of caring people who believe that by working together through the Democratic process great things can be achieved. We believe that the people of Clifton Park deserve a government that puts the interests of the community first. The cornerstone of our vision for our town is a rational approach to protect its character, to preserve its natural resources and plan its growth and future. This is possible with an honest and responsible government that is first and foremost representative of the people.

This is an exciting time for our town, and your participation in the political life of your town is needed. Although the “Republicans” continue to dominate the elected offices in town, we are very active and act as the watchdogs on behalf of the people. We stand up for neighborhoods and individuals who come to express how policies will affect them and support their right to bring their experiences into view. Often the environment and health and well being of a community are overlooked until we speak out. We will continue to stand up in Town Hall questioning those who are in power. We are committed to continue to be a positive force in our town.

Through the years we have brought important ideas and initiatives to the town. We continue to work to get the all “Republican” Town Board to adopt Smart Growth initiatives. We will continue to push for the adoption of the Open Space Plan into town law and not just as a guideline. Only then will the Open Space Plan have any significance in shaping the future of Clifton Park and to preserve its natural resources. We are active participants in offering ideas to control the growth across the town and especially in the rural western half. We watch to make sure that those in office maintain open discussion and follow laws and procedures with the intent to serve the people. While we have made outstanding progress in recent months and years, important work still lies ahead. We need to elect honest, dedicated Democrats and you can help us achieve these important goals.

The year 2006 promises to be the comeback year for Democrats at the National as well as the State levels . We will support the campaign of Robert Reilly for State Assembly and Kirsten Gillibrand in her bid for US congress. We are always working to recruit capable candidates for office, strengthen our infrastructure, volunteer and financial base, and to promote the Democratic message.
