Club La Vela was designed and built in 1984 by German Architect Alois O. Pfeffer. Club La Vela is located right on the sugarwhite beaches of Panama City, and initially opened up as La Vela Beach Club and Concert Hall.

Back then, Club La Vela consisted only of what today is called the "Thunderdome". Over the years, Club La Vela has grown from a small Local's Beach Club with a capacity of a few hundred people, into the largest nightclub in the USA with a capacity of over 6,000 people and took on the motto "PARTY WITH THOUSANDS".

Every year since 1984, Club La Vela has added on additional rooms, bars, decks, giftshops, a huge tropical pool and hi-tech sound and lightsystems that are out of this world. In 1991 when Pfeffer's son Patrick was named CEO, Club La Vela took a new direction in marketing and imaging by changing its logo, refining its name, and catering to a much younger and more mobile clientele. Aggressive marketing (such as the nightly mixshow broadcasts on local radiostations from 7pm-4am, live from the dancefloor) and positive word of mouth soon got the attention of MTV who named Club La Vela the official headquarters of MTV Spring Break in 1996, 1997, and 1998.

During that time, Club La Vela leaped ahead and became the most respected nightclub in the Country. Since then, Club La Vela has continued to grow every single year, each year beating the previous in attendance and revenue. Club La Vela continues to host big events such as the VANS Warped Tour, the Skoal ROAR Tour, World Championship Wrestling, the Bay Watch Talent Search, and Earthlink's Webcast of Spring Break 99. Events such as these keep attracting national media attention of E!, ESPN, TNT and more.
